3.08 lakh children, students to receive deworming tablet

Over 3.08 lakh students and children will receive deworming tablets in the district on February 10 and 17.

In a statement, District Collector A. K. Kamal Kishore said albendazole deworming tablet would be given to the students on February 10 through the primary health centres, anganvadis, private, government and government-aided schools, government and private colleges under the supervision of health nurses, health inspectors, medical officers and trained teachers.

To cover the school dropouts and pregnant women, the deworming tablets will be give to them through the anganvadis and health sub-centres.

In Tenkasi, 3,08,483 children and students aged between 1 and 19, 67,754 women aged between 20 and 30 will be given the deworming tablet on February 10. The uncovered children will be given the tablet on February 17. While half tablet (200 mg) will be given to children aged between 1 and 2, others will be given one tablet (400 mg).

“Since the deworming tablet will prevent anaemia and improve immunity, intelligence and growth, the parents should encourage their children to take the tablet,” Mr. Kamal Kishore said.
